From Human Rights to Healing: The Journey of Sattva Wellbeing and Consulting Pvt. Ltd.

For more than two decades, my life has been dedicated to standing alongside survivors of violence, torture, discrimination, and social exclusion. Through the People's Vigilance Committee on Human Rights (PVCHR) and Jan Mitra Nyas, I have witnessed extraordinary courage among individuals and communities struggling to reclaim their dignity after experiences of trauma and injustice.

These years of engagement taught us an important lesson: while justice is essential, healing is equally urgent.

Legal remedies may take years. Social recognition may come slowly. But the emotional and psychological wounds of violence require immediate attention. Survivors cannot wait indefinitely for healing.

This realization led to the creation of Sattva Wellbeing and Consulting Private Limited, a social innovation startup dedicated to trauma-informed care, psychosocial wellbeing, community resilience, and human dignity.

Why Sattva?

The word Sattva represents balance, clarity, compassion, and inner strength. These values guide our vision of building accessible and inclusive pathways to healing for those who are often excluded from conventional mental health services.

Our mission is to provide psychosocial support to survivors of violence, marginalized communities, human rights defenders, women, children, and vulnerable populations through innovative, community-based approaches that restore dignity, hope, and resilience.

At the heart of our work is Testimonial Therapy, a survivor-centered psychosocial healing approach that enables individuals to safely narrate their experiences, transform painful memories into meaningful testimony, and reclaim their voice.

We believe healing is not only a clinical process. It is also about recognition, belonging, empowerment, and the restoration of self-worth.

A Partnership Rooted in Human Dignity

Sattva is co-founded by Dr. Lenin Raghuvanshi and Kabeer Karunik, bringing together two complementary journeys united by a shared commitment to human dignity.

My own work has evolved through years of human rights advocacy, grassroots organizing, and support for survivors of violence. This experience has shown that trauma often remains invisible even when justice processes begin. Healing requires spaces where people can be heard, believed, and respected.

Kabeer Karunik brings a different yet equally powerful perspective. As a national-level snooker player, he understands the role that sports can play in building resilience, discipline, emotional strength, confidence, and social inclusion. His experience demonstrates that sports are not only about competition; they can also be powerful tools for healing, recovery, and personal transformation.

Together, we envision a model that integrates psychosocial care, community engagement, and sports-based approaches to promote healing and human dignity.

Healing Through Stories

Over the years, we have learned that many survivors are unable to access traditional counseling and mental health services due to cost, stigma, distance, language barriers, or lack of trust in formal institutions.

Testimonial Therapy offers an alternative pathway.

Through a structured and ethical process, survivors are supported to:

  • Share their experiences in a safe environment.
  • Transform memories into written testimonies.
  • Reclaim agency over their narratives.
  • Receive validation and recognition.
  • Begin a journey toward emotional recovery.

The act of being heard becomes the beginning of healing.

For survivors who have long been silenced, testimony can restore voice, dignity, and hope.

Sports for Healing and Human Dignity

At Sattva, we believe that healing can happen in many spaces—not only in counseling rooms but also in communities, schools, playgrounds, and sports arenas.

Sports create opportunities for participation, teamwork, confidence-building, stress reduction, and social connection. For young people, survivors of violence, and marginalized communities, sports can become a powerful platform for restoring self-esteem and creating positive pathways for growth.

Inspired by Kabeer Karunik’s sporting journey, Sattva aims to explore innovative programs that combine trauma-informed care with sports-based engagement. Our goal is to promote both mental wellbeing and human dignity through holistic, community-centered approaches.

Recognition and Support

An important milestone in our journey has been the selection of Sattva for incubation by the Technology Business Incubator Foundation (TBIF), IIT Ropar.

This recognition provides access to mentorship, technical guidance, innovation support, and a vibrant startup ecosystem that will help us strengthen and scale our work. It represents an important step in transforming a field-tested social intervention into a sustainable and impactful social enterprise.

The startup also draws strength from the decades-long experience, community trust, and grassroots networks built by PVCHR and Jan Mitra Nyas. These organizations have demonstrated that social change is possible when communities are empowered and human dignity is placed at the center of development.

Looking Ahead

Our vision is ambitious but simple.

We want to create a world where healing is accessible to everyone, regardless of social status, geography, income, or identity.

We aim to:

  • Expand access to trauma-informed psychosocial care.
  • Train community facilitators and grassroots leaders.
  • Develop innovative models of Testimonial Therapy.
  • Promote sports as a tool for healing and resilience.
  • Build partnerships with academic institutions, civil society organizations, and public agencies.
  • Use technology to make mental health support more accessible and scalable.

As we embark on this journey, we invite researchers, mental health professionals, sports practitioners, social entrepreneurs, community organizations, and supporters to join us.

The transition from human rights advocacy to social innovation is not a departure from our values—it is an extension of them.

True justice is not only about accountability. It is also about healing.

Trauma silences. Testimony restores voice. Sports build resilience. Human dignity creates hope.

Together, these principles form the foundation of Sattva Wellbeing and Consulting Pvt. Ltd.
